5. Hob upstand not required:

A hob, which is usually made of bricks laid on edge and then tiled, has become unnecessary when installing a hobless shower when waterproofing is correctly addressed. Fashion requirements and the ease of access to a shower have made hob-less showers necessary. Large tiles are both fashionable and practical. They look good and offer easier access. Tiles as large as 600mm square can be used in a bathroom but require extra expertise in laying. From about 1989, large tiles were considered too difficult to lay and it is only recently that support has been given for their use.
